Procrastination And The Pomodoro Technique
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
Pomodoro is basically Italian for tomato. It is a mental tool that was invented by Francesco Cirillo in the early 1980’s. It is used in the Pomodoro technique and acts as a timer to keep track of time. Pomodoro technique is a time management technique which is used to break tasks into an interval of usually 25 minutes. Each 25 minute interval is followed by a short break. This technique is very effective and is becoming increasingly popular. In short, the Pomodoro technique looks like this:
I also applied this technique while completing the online course about Creating a #superhero resume that stands out, at Amal teachable. I started a timer of 25 minutes on my cell phone and concentrated fully on the course. But obviously i’m no saint so my mind got distracted a number of times. Some of them were checking mobile for some important message, getting up to drink water, feeling hungry, a temptation to check YouTube and surf Facebook. I magically stayed dedicated by doing these tasks during my rewarding break. So, the process was not easy but it did help me in completing a huge part of the course. This technique helped me in staying focused and dedicated to the task at hand because i knew that i will get time to do the stuff coming in my mind. The only problem i faced was getting back to the task after break. In some cases, when i rewarded myself with a break of 5 minutes, i would get back to the task after 10 mins.
Only practice and a will to do can make things happen. I will, by the will of Allah, continue practicing Pomodoro technique in order to make myself more productive and improve my time management skills. So, to get better results i will try to remove the distractions that i identified, and make myself strong enough to get back to task on time.
